Harvesting Sunflower Seeds

Harvesting Sunflower Seeds

Did you know harvesting your own Sunflower seeds is incredibly easy?

You will need some newspaper spread out on a table (or the floor), scissors, a paper sack, and some gloves.

First, lay your newspaper out.

Lay your Sunflower heads on the newspaper.

Next, using your gloves, remove all the seeds from the head.

Pick through the seeds, and remove all the dead pieces of flower.

Phew...glad that's done!

I poured my seeds in a Mason jar for easy storage.

You can save the seeds you harvested for next spring's planting, feed them to your birds as is for a good treat, or you could sprout them for a super nutritious treat for you or your birds. There are endless possibilities!

WARNING: After reading this post...you may never want to look at Sunflower seeds ever again.

Blessings -
