2015 Seed List

2015 Seed List

In January, Mom handed me a stack of seed catalogs and put me in charge of ordering this years' seeds.

I've dabbled in gardening in the past, but mostly left it up to somebody else. That is, until this year.

I am literally turning every available space into a garden patch, raised bed, or something that will benefit the garden in some way.

I have large..huge..No..COLOSSAL plans for this years' garden! I have high hopes to harvest enough store-able vegetables to last us through this coming winter. Another words, I don't want us to buy any onions, potatoes, squash/pumpkins, garlic, etc. Anything that cannot be stored in the cellar, can be frozen and used as needed.

But, I'll reveal my colossal plans for the garden in another post. This post is dedicated to the (large amount) of seeds I've ordered thus far. And by that, I mean I may not be done ordering! Truthfully, all I have to do is just see a garden catalog and it's enough to spur another seed order! Me, have a problem? Yes, I do. It's called SGS (Severe Gardening Syndrome). It effects your brain, causing you to become an obsessive gardener.

Now then! Without any further ado, my seed list for this year:

  1. Wow! You're going to have one amazing garden!
We don't have much space so I'm focusing mainly on herbs, especially lavender.
What seed company do you order from? I'm still in the researching stage, but I hope to order soon.

    1. Ooh! That's fantastic! Herb gardens are the best! Have you ever heard of an Italian herb garden? Basically, you just grow a bed of Italian herbs to be used in pasta, soups, breads, etc. I think I may do something like that this year. Do you have any salves or herbal remedies using your herbs?

My favorite seed company is Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company (www.rareseeds.com) I've ordered from them twice, and love them! Then I've ordered a couple odds and ins from Urban Farmer (ufseeds.com). But there are lots of options out there. I suggest ordering a couple catalogs from several companies, I looked through several before ordering from Baker Seeds. Good luck on your search!

    2. Thanks so much, I will check them out!

I mainly cook with herbs; I do make salves with beeswax and olive oil, and when I have herbs around again I would like to try my hand at infusing them. And I'm so glad you brought up Italian herbs, I'd pretty much passed over them, which is odd since I LOVE all things Italian.
So many good things to mull over in this cold weather! Thanks again for your advice!
