Baby Rockstars

 Baby Rockstars

So about three weeks back, Creamy (the female Finch) started setting on 6 tiny little jelly-bean-eggs. Well last week, ALL 6 of them hatched, over a several day period. Finton and Creamy are now the proud (and busy) parents of 6 noisy babies.

Tiny little eggs......

Pink naked babies.

There is a word to describe them..

...it just hasn't come to me yet....

AH! Here it is! The perfect description:

That pretty much sums up these little guys. They are half fluff, half rock-star, half Gollum, and part monster.... They are quite scary looking if you ask me!!

They recently started getting pin feathers in (and yes, they still have their golly fluff...). When they start trying to fly I am going to stand by their cage and laugh like Archimedes:

About half of the baby rockstars have pin feathers, and the other half looks like this:

The older ones look like this:

But mainly they just look like this:

They just stand at the edge of the nest with their mouth's wide open screaming for Momma to come feed them. I'm glad I'm not there Momma...just sayin'! ;)

I sometimes amuse myself by just staring into their nest at the moving mass of grey-skin-legs-pinfeathers-&-golly-fluff and try and figure out what part of the baby bird I'm looking at. Usually I fail miserably.

Have you ever had any Baby Rockstars? Did they befuddle you to no end, and proceed to scare you half to death??? Do tell!!

Blessings -

  1. I loved this post!! They are SOOO tiny! My goodness! Did you take them out and hatch them yourself then just give them back to the momma afterwords, or did you let the momma take care of it all? Your description at the end fits perfectly..."half fluff, half rock-star, half Gollum, and part monster"-- so true!! Oh, and that video with Archimedes laugh was gold!! I played it outloud and a couch full of us were in tears laughing...you just made my day! :D

  2. No, the Momma bird (Creamy) did it all. From the laying to the hatching! Ah! I am so glad that you enjoyed! I never know how people like my posts (unless they comment), sometimes I think I can be overly silly and witty. ;)

    1. Not at all, this post was perfect! I loved it! :D Good for her, she must have been a great little momma! Are you planning to keep them all, or sell some when they get older?

    2. She is an excellent Momma bird!! If it were up to Stockton, we'd be keeping ALL 6 of them, but I think we are going to try and talk him into keeping a pair of something. Would y'all like some?? ;)

    3. Aww, I know how that is. I feel that way about any babies that our animals have! :) Thanks for the offer, but I'm afraid we don't have any place to put them right now, and no one who wants them badly enough to clean out their cage. ;P
