Thieves In The Night

Thieves In The Night

I'm tellin' ya, life on the farm is never dull!

Last night about 11:00 or so, Rusty started barking. Now this isn't abnormal for him to bark during the night, as he and the coyotes talk to each other all night long, but this bark was different. We knew something wasn't right!
Mom and Stockton went outside to investigate, after shining the flashlight around they could see two pairs of eyes shining! Yipes! Stockton kept an eye on them while Mom ran back inside to grab Cim. They both came running back outside to take care of the threat...whatever it was! Meanwhile in the house, Carolina and I were minding our own business and the next thing we hear is a gun shot, and then another, then 20 more...we were thinking there must be a pack of coyotes or hogs outside..or a mountain lion or something! After the shooting was over we emerged from our room where we'd been holding two shaking dogs (who happen to be terrified of guns...). We found out there had been two coons out behind the swing set. Cim shot one, multiple times *ahem*, it wouldn't die apparently, and the other ran off before they could get him. Rusty meanwhile had high-tailed it to the house. This morning we went to go see the little, OK actually the big, coon.

Several days ago I'd thrown some eggs that weren't developing out of the incubator, and behind the swing-set. I guess that's what the coons were doing back there as all the eggs were broken and crushed. Note to self: next time bury or throw eggs farther away from the house.

Coons sure are pretty and cute, but boy can they be destructive!

Rusty sniffing the premises. There is no telling what kind of critters roam up by the house at nighttime. Rusty is real good about letting us know when something's wrong, but he usually won't go take care of the threat. He'll wait until we come outside with the guns and then he'll go back to the house.

Check out those teeth! Owww...

We going to set a trap for the other coon. We don't need no coons up by the house. They are troublesome.

Blessings -

  2. Afraid not. The skins a little "holy" if you know what I mean! ;)
